Endicamientos y terraplenes en el Delta del Paraná

En los últimos años el Delta del Paraná se ha vuelto centro de atención por la extracción de los recursos naturales, la sustitución de la vegetación nativa, las intensas sequías y los fuegos y la modificación de los patrones de drenaje debido a la ganadería a gran escala y la agricultura. La construcción de endicamientos y otras obras de infraestructura por medianas a grandes empresas está afectando negativamente a los humedales, las comunidades locales y a las pequeñas unidades productivas.

Los grandes endicamientos que se están construyendo en algunos sectores del Delta, están dañando los modelos tradicionales de producción de la región, disminuyendo los bienes y servicios que ofrecen los humedales, aumentando el impacto de las inundaciones y reduciendo la capacidad de adaptación al cambio climático. Esta publicación encara esta problemática desde diferentes puntos de vista.

Tana Delta, Kenya - Competition for Land and Water

The Tana Delta is the largest and wetland ecosystem in Kenya and is found on the Kenyan Coast (East). The Tana river is the largest and longest river in Kenya ( nearly 1,014 km long ). The Delta is about 130,000ha and suppors 100,000 people, consisting mostly of farmers, pastoralist & fishermen. However, the river volume has fallen by 20% in 10 years.
