CAS 2021: Transforming the Sahel’s Blue Lifelines for Peaceful and Resilient Communities
Join our event at the Climate Adaptation Summit and learn how we can accelerate adaptation to climate change by reviving wetlands, the blue lifelines, across the Sahel and Horn of Africa.
Wetlands are the economic engine of the Sahel. They maintain a supply of water, provide sustenance in the dry season and are crucial refuges during droughts. However, they are in rapid decline due to a combination of upstream water diversions, climate change, and increasing competition for resources locally.
This side event will show the urgent need to revive wetlands, or the blue lifelines, across the Sahel and Horn of Africa – and how we can harness their potential to accelerate adaptation to climate change, increase water security and reduce conflict.
Join us and learn about innovative adaptation solutions for water and security, listen to voices from the field, and follow a high-level dialogue on resourcing the revival of Sahelian wetlands.
Organized by the Blue Lifelines for a Secure Sahel (BLISS) Initiative.
Watch the event in the CAS cinema (25-26 January, registration required) or on CAS TV (no registration required).
