Towards Resilient Coasts in Indonesia
Deltares leads the development of an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) study to expand our understanding of the system in the project area of Building with Nature in Indonesia beyond the coastal area.
Achieving sustainable fresh water use is needed to maintain a healthy mangrove forest and productive aquaculture practices. In the IWRM study, demands of several water user groups from the coastal community are evaluated against the fresh water supply by the river network in Demak.
It shows a catchment that is characterised by a surplus of water over the wet season that is not trapped and utilised efficiently enough. Secondly, it points out that the man-made water distribution system is sub-optimal and results in uneven distribution of fresh water over the area.
The report is currently under review, but you can already download the summary of the IWRM study here.
