Submission to SBSTA on REDD and peatlands – Sept 2011
-
Climate mitigation and adaptation
This policy submission to the UN Climate Conference (UNFCCC) provides input to methodological guidance to the policy mechanism REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation). Wetlands International specifically focuses on the issue of peatlands in relation to REDD in this submission, which differ in relevant aspects from forests on mineral soil.
This information is relevant to peatswamp forests as well as to non-forested peatlands, which have a similar high mitigation potential. This submission is a response to the invitation by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) of the UNFCCC to Parties and accredited observers to submit their views invited to the secretariat by 19 September 2011 (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/L.14 dated 16 June 2011).
