We are excited to share the latest publication developed with our partner Commonland, “The 4 Returns Framework in Practice: A Guidebook for Holistic Landscape Restoration.” This comprehensive guidebook captures over a decade of practical experience in restoring large, degraded landscapes, including wetlands that serve as crucial connectors across ecosystems in various countries.

This publication is a significant contribution to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, emphasizing the importance of inspiring social, natural, and financial returns while mitigating risks.

Since 2021, Wetlands International has adopted the 4 Returns approach, emphasising role of wetlands in linking different zones within landscapes. Through our partnership with Commonland and Landscape Finance Lab, we have developed and tested this framework, offering both conceptual insights and practical tools based on field experience.

“As Wetlands International, we have embraced the Four Returns framework as a cornerstone of our approach to wetland conservation and restoration at landscape scale. This guidebook is designed to inspire and serve as a practical reference for both landscape practitioners and stakeholders.” — Han de Groot, CEO of Wetlands International

“The 4 Returns language connects practitioners, decision-makers, and investors, offering practical tools for many more landscape initiatives to follow suit.” — Femke Tonneijck, Director of Impact, Wetlands International

Many thanks to the COmON Foundation for supporting this initiative.
