This report is the result of a comparative analysis of the Marshlands of Southern Iraq to six other wetlands in the world. The study was carried out as input for the nomination process of the Marshlands of Southern Iraq as a World Heritage Site.
The comparison focuses on two aspects: Firstly, on biological diversity to provide a scientific background to assess the value of the Marshlands as a World Heritage Site. Secondly, on institutional management to suggest possible improvements to the current management structure for long-term conservation, including useful experience from other countries and sites.
