In the midst of record-breaking heat in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, especially Europe, the IFRC and the Climate Centre released their new “Heatwave Guide for Cities” for Red Cross Red Crescent Branches, which is a document that builds on the Heatwave Guide for Cities released in 2019. The document is tailored towards practical actions in preparing for, and responding to, heatwaves in towns and cities. An appendix comprising a checklist on heat danger and COVID-19 to accompany the guide has also been published, as well as a compendium guide focused on the key role wetlands play in regulating urban micro-climates: Heat and Environmental Issues: Urban Wetlands.
