Wetlands International receives €9 million from the COmON Foundation

Published on:

Wetlands International is thrilled to announce the reception of €9 million from the COmON foundation to further vital efforts to protect and conserve wetlands globally.

Despite their recognised benefit to human wellbeing, wetlands continue to be degraded and lost because of human activities like unsustainable development, agriculture, climate change and pollution.

Over a partnership that has spanned several years, COmON has provided core funding that has, amongst others, helped us restore mangroves in Guinea-Bissau and share our practical experience in restoring large, degraded landscapes through “The 4 Returns Framework in Practice Guidebook.”

This additional funding will enable Wetlands International to advance our initiatives in fundraising, communications, and strategic partnerships.

“We are immensely grateful to the COmON for their continual generous support,” said Han de Groot, CEO of Wetlands International. “Wetlands are the linchpin of interconnected ecosystems. Protecting and restoring them means addressing the triple crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity through one scalable, nature-based solution, while simultaneously contributing to global objectives like the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

We thank the COmON Foundation for their support in enabling urgent action to protect, manage and restore wetlands at scale.
